Morgan Freeman, Morgan Freeman

I don't get Madame Tussaud's. I mean, I get it, it's a wax museum. But well, I don't really get it. Maybe it's just me. I don't know, but geez, if you want to see Morgan Freeman, these days you don't really have to travel to New York or Las Vegas or somewhere else with a wax museum to see his likeness like you did in say, maybe, 1800? Because back then, it wasn't that easy to see a photograph. But now we have a plethora of photographs. And this really cool thing called the internet, and you can conjure up Morgan Freeman whenever you want to. For free. From anywhere in the world. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it.

The girl child and the boy child shared this video with me. It nearly made me pee in my pants. I'm sorry if that was TMI, but it's true. I think it's a pretty funny video. Yeah, all of the "true facts" videos make me LOL. If you haven't noticed, I'm practicing some text message abbreviations. Because I got made fun of the other day. By the girl child. Because I didn't know what TTYL meant. I know what it means now, thank you very much, but she still made fun of me. She makes fun of me because I sometimes have problems with the TV remote. And because the font size on my iphone is really, really big and I don't know how to use all of the features. I get the feeling that sometimes, the girl child and the boy child think I am old. I know, can you believe that? But sometimes, I kind of understand how they feel.

For example, this morning I took an "aquacise" class at the gym, sort of a water version of "Sweatin' to the Oldies," minus Richard Simmons in the red, white and blue short shorts (thankfully). I took the class because I am trying to get some exercise, and although I can keep up with the Zumba class pretty darn well, my knee can't, so I figured I'd try an aqua class so it would be gentle on the joints. When I entered the pool area, I noticed that the music was already cranked, and the water was full of baby boomers. And I have to admit I smirked just a teensy bit when the instructor asked me to go out and have the girls in the office turn up the volume on the sound system. Really? Up? We were all surprised, me and the girls in the office. But I have to admit, I felt a little strange when I first walked in to the class. I thought it wasn't going to be challenging, that I was too young. That this wouldn't be, shouldn't be, for me. But you know, I had to work harder than I thought to keep up with those ladies.

I am on the tail end of that generation, so I was pretty much the baby of the bunch. When I do something aerobic, it's typically Zumba with a younger, more seemingly fit crew, so it was a bit of a shock. Even the music was different. I think they must sell retro aerobics mixes just for this purpose. But yeah, I knew all the words to "He's So Fine" and "Runaway." When I was a teenager in the mid 1970s, the music from twenty years earlier, the ’50s and early ’60s, was cool. You know, American Graffiti, the Fonz. Today, the girl child and the boy child like Radiohead. Who debuted their first single in 1992. You know, like twenty years ago. Does this mean that when they are my age, they will be aquacising to "Creep"?

There doesn't seem to be all that much of a generation gap between myself and the girl and boy children like there was between me and my parents back in the day. To be honest, I occasionally watch Jenna Marbles or Shane Dawson or Nigahiga or John Green or Hank Green when the kids are not around. I admit it. Sorry, but some of this stuff is seriously funny. And some if it is seriously educational. And some is both funny AND educational and I wish I had had stuff like that to watch when I was a kid, because maybe if I'd had some of those Crash Course videos around, maybe I would've done better in history class. Or maybe not. But it would at least have been more fun to study. And yeah, I've been known to recommend Nigahiga's First World Problems video to friends. And if you don't like it, I don't care. Here's a full cup.

I think it's pretty great that we can share these things. I like to sing along with the music on the kids' iphones. But tonight, the boy child and his friends were singing Bohemian Rhapsody. He is fourteen now, the same age I was when Queen first recorded the song. I used to sing this song with my friends. I loved it then. He loves it now. And we both know all of the words.

I've also figured out how to send pictures from my iphone. Here's one that I sent to the boy child not too long ago. It's a wax statue of Morgan Freeman. Taken in front of Madame Tussaud's.

Health day.

I woke up this morning to find out that fibromyalgia had kicked my butt. Overnight. Well, not really overnight. It's been working up to it slowly over the last month or so. Damn you, fibromyalgia (she said, shaking her fist)! Late nights and weekends at work. Too few days off cramming too much fun and not-so-much fun into too little time. The fates have conspired to make me miss my acupuncture and massage appointments, tai chi classes, and regular healthy meals. Oh and there's that stress stuff, too. It makes my muscles ache. It keeps my mind in a fog. I can't sleep so I've been going to bed too late. I've been eating chips and meat of unknown origin. And gluten. I am not proud.

So, today I woke up and decided that maybe I just wouldn't wake up after all.  Maybe I'd just sleep another hour or three. You know, until like 7. And so I did. I called in sick.

The husband went to work and the girl child to camp, and so I was left to my own devices in the house with the sleeping boy child. He is fourteen now which means he needs at least eleventy hours of sleep each day. At least. Since I had some time on my hands I did some work but I made myself stop. STOP! Because it's very easy to segue from work to paying household bills to doing housework. This is not helpful. It sort of defeats the purpose of the sick day, you know?

So I woke up the sleeping boy child. They say never to wake a sleeping child and one would assume that pertains only to babies but sometimes it pertains to to fourteen-year-olds, although today it did not. Lucky for me, because a grumpy teen can  be ever-so-much worse than most other formerly sleeping children. I know this from experience. I am sure that some of you reading this would agree.

And so now, I am taking advantage of my sick day, which I am going to call my health day instead. I have a chair and a book and a boy child, and for today, this is all I need.
